Loja, Ecuador

hi all from Loja in Ecuador !!

this is what I've been up to these last days since I left Lluis:

after catching two buses back to back and 24 hours travelling non-stop I got to Loja, where Javi and the kids went to pick me up from the bus station !! Catching up with an old mate that I haven't seen in four months was great fun !! It's a very nice building sponsored by the vasc government where kids with low income (or none at all) can come to stay. It's very interesting to spend some time with them, and they've got loads of energy !! They go to school and to church (the maristas from Spain made the whole thing happen) but at this moment in time it's school holidays. They seem pretty happy (Javi is a wee exhausted) but he teaches them to dream and that's the most important thing ever for a kid !! that they can achieve anything in the future !! Kids are pretty well behaved and do all the housework. Feels like in Bangladesh, that all I can do is hang out and play with them !!
After two days in Loja we set off for Vilcabamba and the valley of longevity !! Went for a walk in the valley and got lost, but pretty cool scenery !! then took a turkish sauna and a jacuzzi at our cheap and cheerful resort. The following day we climbed the 'Mandango' in flipflops, and we got really nice views from the top !!
On friday we went swimming on a trip with all the kids (around 50) to a close swimming pool. Pretty rewarding to receive hugs and cuddles from kids (from 3 to 15 years old) !! It's so cool that don't feel like leaving !! On saturday we played basketball and considering staying a wee longer here but in the meantime we set off that night to the seaside Javi and me !!
After 12 hours we arrived at Montañita, a surfer resort kind of in low season, pretty cool but full of gringos. Seems like Thailand (for the ratio gringos/locals) with not so nice beaches but great fun !! The next day we went to Manta, a city with zero gringos blessed by the hot oceanic currents and we had a swim there as well !! As it was cloudy the following day we decided to give not travel any further and we caught a bus back to Loja via Guayaquil (we spent the day there).
Now we are back in Loja deciding what to do the following days ...

hola a todos desde Loja en Ecuador !!

esto es lo que he estado haciendo los ultimos dias desde que deje a Lluis:

despues de tomar dos autobuses consecutivos y tras 24 horas viajando llegue a Loja, donde Javi y algunos de los chavales me vinieron a buscar a la parada de autobuses !! Volver a ver a un amigo que hace 4 meses que no ves es curioso y muy muy divertido !! Viven en una casa muy bien equipada esponsorizado por el gobierno vasco, donde chavales y niños con muy pocos recursos economicos (a veces ninguno) vienen a quedarse. De hecho solo los mas afortunados, pq hay lista de espera. Es muy interesante pasar tiempo con ellos, y tienen mogollon de energia !! Van a la escuela y a la iglesia (los hermanos maristas de España son los que han movido todo este asunto) aunque de momento son todavia vacaciones escolares. Todos parecen muy contentos (al Javitron lo veo un poco exhausto) pero el les enseña a soñar, y eso es lo mas importante para un niño !! que pueden conseguir todo lo que se propongan !! Los chavales se comportan bastante bien en la casa y hacen todas las tareas, desde limpiar, hasta algunas comidas, arreglar el jardin, etc. Me siento un poco como en Bangladesh, que lo unico que puedo hacer yo es reirme y jugar con ellos !!
Despues de dos dias en Loja nos fuimos Javi y yo a Vilcabamba y el valle de la longevidad !! Fuimos a hacer trekking por el valle, y nos perdimos, pero el paisaje era maravilloso !! despues nos tomamos un baño turco y un jacuzzi en nuestro hotelillo !! Al dia siguiente subimos el 'Mandango' en chanclas y vimos unas vistas espectaculares desde todo lo alto !!
El viernes fuimos a nadar a una piscina local con los chavales (unos 50) esponsorizada por la familia de Javi. Estuvo muy bien y es sencillamente increible recibir abrazos de los niños (de 3 a 15 años) !! Esto es tan especial que me estoy pensando quedarme unos dias mas !! El sabado jugamos a baloncesto y por la noche nos fuimos a pasar unos dias a la playa !!
Despues de 12 horas de autobuses llegamos a Montañita, un pueblecito surfero, que parecia ser temporada baja (pq el cielo tiene color de panza de burro), bastante interesante y lleno de gringos. Se parece un poco a Tailandia por la proporcion gringos/gente local, con playas no tan bonitas pero igual de molon !! Al dia siguiente nos fuimos a Manta, una ciudad con cero gringos bendecida por las corrientes calientes del oceano y nos bañamos alli tambien, que esto hay que hacerlo !! Como el tiempo no acompañaba nos agarramos un autobus de vuelta en Loja parando en Guayaquil a pasar el dia !!
Ahora estamos en Loja y yo estoy decidiendo que es lo que voy a hacer los proximos dias ...
