Montevideo, Punta del Este & Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay

after 15 hours on a night bus (where I couldn't sleep coz the man next to me was snoring all night long) I got to Montevideo, where I had the biggest lunch of my life I reckon !! a beautiful uruguayan steak, with dessert, coffee and cognac (the owner insisted) !!! what a country, so friendly people !!

Montevideo: 1.3 million people living in this very laid back capital. Not a very sophisticated place and the city centre gets deserted in the evenings, but not too bad to spend a day only :). Walked around town and decided to go to Punta del Este the next morning !!

Punta del Este: I got there on superlow season (high season starts after xtmas) and it was very deserted. The truth is that it's by far not as pretty as any of the beaches one can swim in the Mediterranean, and the city is a place for rich argentinians, with no trendy places, just posh. These people just buy condos and hang out there when the weather is good. Buzios was much nicer, and in Punta del Este the water is too cold to swim, even in summer !! This is all a real state development scam to sell condos !! So left for Colonia del Sacramento the following morning !!

Colonia del Sacramento: on the way to the bus station, the taxi driver introduced me to the real mate at last !! the good one, really sour !! Anyway, Colonia is cute, with winding coblestone streets, funky little restaurants and gorgeous river views. It's not so big, and since Javi was in Buenos Aires, off I went the same afternoon !!!!

despues de 15 horas en un bus nocturno (donde no pude dormir pq el huevon de al lado mio roncaba) llegue a Montevideo, donde me comi el almuerzo mas grande de toda mi vida creo !! un maravilloso bistec uruguayo, con postre, cafe y cognac (el dueño insistia) !!! que pais con gente tan simpatiquisima !!

Montevideo: 1.3 millones de personas viviendo en una capital super relajada. No es un lugar especialmente sofisticado, y el centro de la ciudad se queda desierta por la noche, pero no esta mal para verla durante un dia :). Me di una vuelta por la ciudad y decidi irme para Punta del Este al dia siguiente !!

Punta del Este: Cuando llegue es super temporada baja (la alta empieza despues de navidades) y estaba realmente desierto. La verdad es que ni de lejos es tan bonita como cualquiera de las playas en las que uno se baña en el Mediterraneo, y es un sitio solo para argentinos ricos, ni siquiera hay sitios trendies, solo pijos. Esta gente rica lo que hace es comprar apartamentos y pasar los veranos. Buzios es muchisimio mejor pq en Punta del Este el agua esta demasiado fria para bañarse inclusive en verano !! Es todo un gran timo por parte de las sociedades inmobiliarias para vender pisos !! Escandaloso !!! O sea que pase un dia y luego me fui a Colonia del Sacramento !!

Colonia del Sacramento: de camino a la parada del autobus, un taxista me dejo a probar el buen mate (por fin), el superamargo !!! Bueno, Colonia es una pequeña ciudad muy cuca, con calles serpenteantes hechas de adoquines, pequeños restaurantes bien funkies y lindisimas vistas del rio. No es un sitio demasiado grande, y como el Javitron estaba en Buenos Aires, pues me fui para alli ese mismo dia !!!
