Lima, Peru

hi from the capital of Peru !!

we arrived here with Lluis 3 days ago and we went out partying in the trendiest club in Miraflores (the posh neighbourhood where we are staying) until 5am !! The following day we moved into a cheap and cozy appartment on the 12th floor of a condominium. It's a really cool place, but a bit dodgy coz we only spoke to the owner over the telephone and gave the money to the doorman ... Anyway, that day we were knackered and went to bed pretty early, sleeping 12hrs and didn't make it to go clubbing with Suzette... To redeem ourselves, the day after we went walking around Lima with her, and it was pretty cool to see it with local eyes !! We visited the Monasterio de San Francisco (with the catacumbs), a local fair and the neighbourhood of Barranco. Lima is a pretty ugly city, with really nice buildings that are abandoned and have a scruffy and unorganized air, but fun nonetheless !!
Today Lluis has gone pretty early in the morning and I am chilling out waiting for the bus that should take me to see Javi in Loja, Ecuador !! Hopefully my bag is still in the appartment ... More soon,

hola desde la capital del Peru,

llegamos aqui con Lluis hace 3 dias y nos fuimos de copas al lugar mas trendy del barrio de lujo donde nos quedamos, Miraflores, hasa las 5 de la mañana !! al dia siguiente nos mudamos a un apartamento muy molon en el piso 12 de un edificio alto desde donde se ve todo Miraflores. El sitio es maravilloso, solo que nunca vimos a la propietaria, solo hablamos por telefono con ella y le dimos el dinero al portero... mis trastos estan aun alli, espero que no me los hayan mangado !!! Bueno, al dia siguiente estabamos tan cansados que fuimos a dar un paseo y a dormir pronto, y no pudimos ir de copas con Suzette... Para redimirnos, al dia siguiente (ayer) nos fuimos con ella al centro de Lima. Se enrollo mogollon y nos enseño la capial con ojos locales. Visitamos el Monasterio de San Francisco con sus catacumbas, una feria local y el barrio de Barranco !! Lima es una ciudad bastante fea, con edificios preciosos, pero dejados y abandonados, bastante sucios que le dan un aire desorganizado y caotico. De todas maneras vale la pena venir, que esto hay que hacerlo !!
Hoy se ha ido Lluis, yo espero que mi maleta aun este en el departamento y esta noche pillo un autobus nocturno, que me llevara a la frontera con Ecuador, y de alli otro hasta Loja, donde voy a ver al Javitron !!

Arequipa, Peru

hi all,

Arequipa is a nice little town next to the volcano 'El Misti' (6000m high), founded in 1540. It's called 'the white city' because of the material used to build it ('sillar'). It has sillar a cathedral plus numerous beautiful colonial churches and mansions dotted throughout the city. We had some awesome 'pisco sour' and ended up dancing with some ugly women who wanted to take advantage of us !! Pfffffff !! The following day we visited the amazing 'Monasterio de Santa Catalina' and the 'Museo Andino', where Juanita is kept. She was a 12 year old inca girl offered to the gods and very well preserved. Then chilled out and bought a flight to Lima as Lluis cannot stand buses !!

Arequipa es una bonita ciudad situada justo a lado del volcan 'El Misti' (6000m de altura !!), fundada en 1540. Se la llama 'la ciudad blanca' por el material usado para construir muchos de sus edificios ('sillar'). Tiene una catedral y numerosas hermosas iglesias coloniales y mansiones esparcidas a lo largo y ancho de la ciudad. Nos tomamos unos magnificos 'pisco sour' y acabamos bailando en un bar donde dos mujeres superfeas se querian aprovechar de nosotros y darnos besines. Pfffff. El dia siguiente nos lo pasamos visitando el alucinante 'Monasterio de Santa Catalina'y el 'Museo Andino', donde guardan a Juanita. Juanita fue una niña inca de 12 años ofrecida a los dioses y que esta muy en muy buen estado de conservacion. Despues nos relajamos y compramos un vuelo a Lima que a Lluis no le molan nada los autobuses !!

San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

hi all,

arrived to the driest desert in the world, Atacama !! In the middle of the desert there is this little village called San Pedro. It's full of tourists, but they don't seem to mind. WEnt for a tour to 'el salar' (salt mines and salt caves, the third biggest in the world) and then went to 'el valle de la luna' for sunset. Pretty cool !!! As we need to get going we took an overnight bus to Arica, to the very north of Chile on our way to Peru !! As soon as we got there we realised we would give it a miss so we took a back to back bus to Arequipa !!

hace unos dias estuvimos en el desierto mas desierto del mundo, Atacama !! En el medio del desierto hay una pequeño pueblo lleno de turistas que se llama San Pedro. Alli fuimos a un tour del 'el salar' (minas de sal y cavernas de sal. Es de hecho el tercer salar mas grande del mundo) y luego vimos el atardecer en el 'valle de la luna'. Alucinante !! Como no teniamos mucho tiempo cogimos un autobus nocturno hacia Arica, en el norte de Chile, de camino a Peru !! Y tan pronto como llegamos alli era tan feo que decidimos coger otro autobus a saco y fuimos a Arequipa !!

Viña del Mar, Chile

hi all,

managed to get a massive cold on our way back from Rapa Nui !! Got to Santiago and went clubbing anyway, which was awesome fun but didn't help me recovering ... The following day we left for Viña del Mar, where our beautiful chilean family was expecting us. Francisco son took us out to see Valparaiso, a beautiful city by the sea with lots of hills, colourful houses and 'ascensores' !! We went out that evening and I was still with runny nose, so it was not great fun for me but I still enjoyed it !! The next day with hangover we had a massive sunday roast in their mansion !!!

a la vuelta de Rapa Nui me traje un constipado de caballo !! Cuando llegamos a Santiago nos fuimos de copas igualmente, lo que estuvo muy bien y carreteamos hasta altas horas, pero no me ayudo en nada a recuperarme del resfriado ... Al dia siguiente partimos para Viña del Mar, donde nuestra magnifica familia chilena nos esperaba. Francisco hijo nos llevo a ver Valparaiso, una bonita ciudad al lado del mar con mogollon de cerros, casas de colores y ascensores en la calle !! Salimos tambien de copas esa noche, y yo aun andaba con mocos y resfriado, o sea que no fue ideal para mi salir a vacilarla tomando agua con gas toda la noche, pero aun asi estuvo muy bien !! Al dia siguiente nos hicieron una barbacoa divina en su casa !!!

Rapa Nui, Chile

hi all from Santiago de Chile, back from Rapa Nui with a massive cold !! Rapa Nui (Easter Island) is 5hr away by plane from Santiago. It's a small little island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, one of the most isolated places on Earth and part of Polinesia. The island is full of 'moais' (enorme stone sculptures to honour their ancestors) carved in beautiful volcano Rano Raraku by the two tribes that inhabited the island. They used timber to drag the sculptures, hence the deforestation. We went up Rano Kau, a beautiful volcano of 410m height, then the following day we took two bicycles and went around the whole island, climbed Rano Raraku and saw lots of moais !! By the time we finished we were totally exhausted !! I reckon it's there where I got the cold ... Anyway, since there were not many things to do there, we changed our plane tickets and came back to Santiago yesterday. We were planning to go partying, but since I've got this massive cold I reckon I'll give it a miss ...

hola a todos desde Santiago de Chile, ya de vuelta de Rapa Nui con un resfriado de caballo !! Rapa Nui (Isla de Pascua) esta a 5horas en avion de Santiago, y es una pequenya isla en el medio del Oceano Pacifico, uno de los lugares mas aislados de la Tierra y parte de la Polinesia. La isla esta llena de 'moais' (enormes esculturas de piedra hechas para honrar a sus antepasados). Fueron talladas en el magnifico volcan Rano Raraku por las dos tribus que habitaban la isla, y como usaron maderas para mover las figuras, de aqui la deforestacion. El primer dia subimos el Rano Kau, un volcan maravilloso de 410m de altura, y al dia siguiente cogimos dos bicis y fuimos a dar la vuelta a la isla. Subimos el volcan Rano Raraku, y vimos mogollon de moais !! creo que alli es donde cogi el resfriado ... en fin, pilarin, que cuando devolvimos bicis estabamos rotos !! como no hay muchas cosas para hacer alli, francamente, cambiamos el vuelo y regresamos a Santiago ayer. El plan era salir de copas con una gente que conocimos, pero como tengo este resfriado mejor me quedare en cama poniendome bueno ...

Santiago, Chile

hi from Santiago de Chile !!

this is a not very pretty city but beautifully situated right next to the majestic Andes !! it's pretty cold here but I am still with my pink flipflops !! My buddy Lluis came to pick me up from the airport the other day and it was pretty cool to see him !! Went walking around in town, saw El Palacio de la Moneda and the house where the famout poet Pablo Neruda used to live. That same day we went out partying to 'Kamasu', dancing 'reggeton' until 6am !! We were mingling with the locals and we are clearly the most trendy people in town !! We have been going out and yesterday through a friend of a friend we went out with a whole family (I thought it was only a guy and his sister) to a beautiful wineyard for lunch !! a true chilean experience !! tomorrow off to Easter Island to see 'moais', that will be cool !!!

hola desde Santiago de Chile !!

no es una ciudad especialmente bonita, pero esta situada a los pies de la cordillera de los Andes y esto la hace muy especial !! hace bastante frio, pero yo aun voy con sandalias !! mi amigo Lluis me vino a buscar el otro dia al aeropuerto y fue muy divertido hacer catching up con el !! Fuimos a dar un paseo por la ciudad, y vimos el Palacio de la Moneda y la casa donde vivio el fabuloso poeta Pablo Neruda con su amante 'La Chascona'. Ese mismo dia salimos de copas y acabamos en el chamizo 'Kamasu' bailando 'regeton' con los locals hasta las 6am !! como los grandes !! somos clarisimamente los mas trendies de la ciudad !! los seguratas me miran las zapatillas amarillas que llevo por la noche !! Hemos estado saliendo todos los dias, y ayer un amigo de un amigo nos propuso ir a visitar unas viñas con el y su hermana, pero al final resulto que fue una comida familiar !!! y eramos mas de 20 !! inmersion en la cultura chilena total, pero son muy majos y nos han invitado a pasar el fin de semana siguiente en su casa de Viña del Mar !! Bueno, de momento mañana para la Isla de Pascua a ver 'moais', que seguro que es superespectacular !!
